Positive power of nature
Sunday, November 2nd, 2008I used to commute to work via train. The trip each way was around an hour 10 minutes. The most exciting part of the journey was 10 minutes along the Hawkesbury River. A window seat on this side of the train was the most sought after.
The excitement was to see a fish jumping out of the water, seemingly totally at random. And usually it was just one fish. As the train chugged along the river, my eyes would peel the surface of the water. Some days the water would be rough causing little splashes of water to which my eyes would go. Other days the water was smooth and glassy – perfect conditions for fish jumping.
This was the highlight of the train trip. Something I looked forward to. I even started to think of stories and of drawings about the jumping fish. That such a simple thing could be the source of enjoyment had me thinking about nature. It truly is a marvel but it is mostly taken for granted.
I was reminded of the marvel of nature as I sat enjoying a lovely sunset recently. The colours were subtle, gentle and peaceful. The joy of it! Here is a snapshot of my enjoyment.
